Collective Punishment
Collective Punishment addresses the impact of parental imprisonment on families across the UK
Who We Are
Collective Punishment addresses the impact of parental imprisonment on families, particularly children, across the UK. Led by individuals with personal experiences of parental imprisonment, CPC aims 1) to raise awareness of the challenges faced by affected families and 2) advocate for policy and legislation change at a national and local level.
What’s the problem?
Over 300,000 children in the UK have been impacted by parental imprisonment and are separated from their parents by a prison sentence each year. Despite this, there is no statutory framework for identifying and supporting these children. Though recognised as an adverse childhood experience, parental imprisonment often fails to trigger appropriate support.
How are we solving it?
We move people from isolation to collective power through healing, community-building, and political education, enabling ourselves to organise for justice.
By raising awareness, sharing lived experiences and advocating for policy reforms, Collective Punishment is amplifying the voices of affected families and reducing the impact of criminalisation of people’s family members, making sure every child is supported to thrive.
